DIY Spa Series Week 26 – Deep Condition With Avocados!

July 30th, 2010 Zee

Is your hair wigging out with dehydration?

Blow drying, intensive hair styling and insufficient water intake can give you a head case of dehydration.  Our body tends to break down when we lack water in our system, and that breakdown includes our hair.

When your hair gets dehydrated, the hair dries from the inside out, leading to hair breakage and shedding. (eeek!) When this happens, it could lead to hair loss and some serious balding spots.

Now we all want our hair to be thick and luscious of course, so take care of dehydrated hair by:

  • Staying hydrated at all times. Drink lots of water (at least 8 glasses or more!).
  • Taking a break from all that hair primping. Don’t overdo the styling! Let your hair rest for a few days before doing something drastic, like curling it with an iron or blow drying it on full power.
  • Brushing it regularly. Turns out, that works wonders for your tresses.  Brushing your hair helps distribute the oils on your head and keep your hair from drying out.
  • Hydrating your hair with an all-natural conditioner, like our DIY avocado deep conditioner (listed below). There are a lot of benefits to using natural fruit to cleanse and nourish our body. Its fresh ingredients will do wonders for those stressed out tresses and leave you and your hair feeling nourished.

Hydrate Your Hair with Avocados

Di you know that avocados have been used in beauty treatments in South America since the Mayan times? Full of vitamins A, B, D and E, various proteins and oils, avocados are popular in deep conditioners for dry, damaged hair. They can condition and hydrate your hair to a healthier growth.

This DIY recipe not only is easy to do, but uses ingredients you can easily find in your home. Ditch the expensive treatments and go natural with this deep hair conditioner and feel the difference of an organic solution for your hair! Enjoy!

Avocado Deep Conditioner

Ingredients:

1 ripe avocado
A small amount of mayonnaise, just enough according to the thickness of your hair

Directions:

  1. Mix the avocado and mayonnaise in a small bowl.
  2. Smooth the green mixture into your hair, then massage your scalp.
  3. Wrap your hair with a shower cap, plastic wrap or a towel and leave on for 20 minutes. (For deeper conditioning, use plastic wrap, then cover your head with a  warm, damp towel.)
  4. Rinse hair thoroughly then towel dry.
