Put the luster back in your locks!

Don’t you just hate it when your hair seems dull and lifeless? We’ve had our share of bad hair days and we’re sure you agree that it can ruin your mood and a perfectly good outfit!

Dry hair is dull hair, and this can be caused by both external and internal factors such as exposure to harsh chemicals or illness. The most common reasons for lackluster locks are:

  • Harsh shampoos or shampooing too often
  • Hair treatments (color and perm)
  • Chlorine in swimming pools and hot tubs
  • Excessive or improper use of blow dryer or curling iron
  • Too much exposure to sun and wind

Shampooing too often is one of the most common causes of dry hair. Yes, squeaky-clean hair is healthy, but shampoos often contain harsh cleaning agents that can strip away your hair’s natural oils, which help hold in moisture that provide shine for your hair! If you’re suffering from dry hair and really want to put the shine back, then you should wash it less frequently. You should also avoid too much styling, coloring and sun exposure.

Aside from avoiding the causes of dry hair, give your crowning glory some honey and olive oil pampering today. We absolutely love these two amazing ingredients – they can do wonders for dry hair!

Hello Olive Oil And Honey!

What you have heard about olive oil is true – it nourishes, conditions, and improves the strength and elasticity of your hair! You can use it by itself or with other ingredients such as egg and honey! Olive oil is one of the best natural remedies for dry hair — you can leave it on your hair for at least half an hour before rinsing it off with water and gentle shampoo. If want to go for a full natural treatment, leave the olive hair on your hair overnight — this will nourish your hair with keratin and leave it shiny and healthy!

Deep conditioners and other hair products can bring a shine to hair, but did you know that only honey can provide a naturally created sheen? Honey is a natural humectant, which means it attracts and holds on to water molecules, making it a great treatment for dry, damaged hair. This sweet, delightful, golden-colored, sugary solution has so many benefits that we could write several other posts about all its benefits!

So what are you waiting for? This fabulous Friday, head to your kitchen and whip up these shine-boosting treatments!

Honey Hair Conditioning Treatment

Ingredients:

1/2 cup honey
2 tbsp. to 1/4 cup olive oil (depending on the dryness of your hair and scalp)

Directions:

1. Combine both ingredients in a bowl.
2. Saturate hair and scalp with this conditioner.
3. Put on a shower cap and allow the conditioner to remain for 30 minutes.
4. Shampoo and rinse as usual.

Honey and Olive Oil Hair Mask

Ingredients:

2 tbsp. Honey
3 tbsp. Olive oil

Directions:

1. Take out a small bowl and mix 2 tbsp. of honey with 3 tbsp. of olive oil. If you have long hair, increase the amount as needed.
2. Apply the mixture throughout your hair, making sure it is fully saturated.
3. Cover your hair with a shower cap or plastic wrap and leave for 15 minutes.
4. Shampoo the mixture out and rinse. (You may or may not apply a conditioner. Once your hair is dry, you’ll notice how soft and shiny it is!)

Use this mask once a week or once every two weeks to deeply moisturize and bring back shine.

P.S. Jojoba oil is also a much recommended ingredient for giving shine and brightness to your hair. This is because the molecular structure of jojoba is almost similar to the one of sebum, the natural hair moisturizer! Other must-try natural oils that provide moisture for the hair are: olive, ylang-ylang (find it here), almond, avocado, rosemary essential oil, wheat germ oil, emu oil, shea oil and herbal oils such as: nettle oil, plantain oil, burdock oil! These “super oils” provide a wide range of nutrients, antioxidants and vitamins vital for the hair and scalp. Mix one of these oils with honey and then apply it as a mask for shiny hair!

  • Great share, thank you! Believe me, oatmeal is also good for the hair. Mix up some oatmeal, then apply it to your hair while in the shower. Rub it in and let it sit for about 1-2 minutes before washing it out completely. Your hair will be soft and strong.
