The Jig is Up — We are a clothing company … with no clothes to sell!

At least not yet.

Well, since we’re going to be running our blog series that we’ve been working so hard on, and it’s set to release January 1, come hell or high water (or in our case, come inventory or not), we figured we might as well come clean and tell you we have nothing to sell yet!

Unfortunately, we are learning the downside of being a small clothing company and, therefore, not being able to place million dollar orders.  And, to be honest with you, we don’t intend on ever getting to the point where we’re placing mass scale orders because it would go against our principles of sustainability anyway.

Have you noticed that, as a society we always get more than we need out of fear that we might run out. You’ve heard the saying, ‘Better to have too much than not enough.’ This is fine when you’re talking about dinner parties because the leftover food could be stored and eaten later, but think about how much waste is created with consumer products, especially in the clothing industry. There are so many clothing lines that come out with seasonal offerings, then three months later there is another collection, and another, and another. And each time, they are ordering thousands and thousands of pieces so if the public hates the style or the quality, then there is a glut of unwanted inventory. And think about where all that waste goes.  Waste is a by-product of inefficiency.  As someone who can’t stand inefficiency, that’s mind-boggling to me that so much waste is created on a daily basis.

We intend on always having a tight inventory, using principles similar to lean manufacturing and just-in-time inventory (another sustainability concept). In the beginning it may cause more work and headaches for us, but over time we hope to streamline this process so that this itty bitty, small clothing company can show other businesses that money and size should not limit them from becoming more sustainable.

So, back to the original reason for this post, which is to tell you that we don’t have any products yet. Hopefully, we will have them in a couple weeks.

What’s Your New Year’s Resolution?

According to a recent survey by Tiller, LLC, more than half (53%) of adults are going to make their new year’s resolution to go greener. But for some people, the concept of going green can be a daunting task.  There are literally thousands of resources, in print and on the internet. It can be a task on its own just to research what blog to subscribe to, book to read, or consultant to hire.  If you’re like me, then with all this stuff available on the Internet, you suffer slightly from a case of information overload.

We’re here to help!

Starting on January 1st and continuing each day for the entire month, we will feature a post from our 31 days to a Greener and Healthier Life series. Each post will highlight a different action you can take, along with the “what,” “why,” and — most importantly — “how” to go about succeeding in your resolution.

And no, we are not going to tell you to buy a hybrid or buy a green building. These are simple and easy steps that you can implement right away into your lifestyle without hurting your pocketbook.

So stay tuned. Good things are coming in 2010!!

Why we named ourselves Green Blossoms

“Green” has become synonymous with environmentally friendly, eco-friendly, and sustainable. “Blossom” has an alternate meaning aside from the obvious floral meaning. It also means a movement.

While we can argue that the movement towards living a more environmentally consciously and sustainably has been around for ages, it has gained much traction in recent times, primarily because our legislators and other leaders have given it priority.

With that said, we hope that our customers and fans will continue the success of Green Blossoms.
